Swiss Health Insurance Premiums 2027: What to Expect
Last updated: 3 August 2026 · Based on official FOPH 2026 premium data (217'000+ premium records, 34 insurers) and published 2027 forecasts. This page will be updated the day official 2027 premiums are released.
Swiss health insurance premiums are expected to rise again in 2027, but more slowly than in recent years. Comparis forecasts an average increase of 3.7%, while the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) expects 4.5–5%. The official 2027 premiums will be announced by the FOPH at the end of September 2026. Until then, the figures below show what a 3.7–5% increase would mean for the average standard-model premium in your canton.
The trend: premium increases 2023–2027
| Premium year | Average change |
|---|---|
| 2023 | +6.6% |
| 2024 | +8.7% |
| 2025 | +6.0% |
| 2026 | +4.4% |
| 2027 | +3.7% (Comparis forecast) to +4.5–5% (FOPH estimate) |
After three years of premium shocks driven by insurers rebuilding reserves, the increase is flattening — but premiums are still rising, not falling.

Why premiums keep rising
The main driver is healthcare cost growth, projected at around 3.5% for 2027. The strongest cost increases are in home care (Spitex, +13%) and psychological psychotherapy (+9.8%). Newly covered benefits also add to the bill, such as weight-loss medications and compensation for family caregivers.
One remaining uncertainty is the new Tardoc outpatient tariff system, which replaced Tarmed on 1 January 2026. Its effect on total outpatient costs is not yet visible in a full year of data.

How to prepare now
Nothing about 2027 is decided yet, but the options people typically compare before the deadline are the same every year:
- Switching to another insurer for the same basic insurance.
- Choosing a different annual deductible between CHF 300 and CHF 2'500.
- Choosing an alternative model such as family doctor, HMO or Telmed instead of the standard model.
Basic insurance coverage is identical at every insurer by law, so switching never reduces your KVG coverage — only the price changes. We compare and inform — we do not provide advice.
